Nicolás Maduro’s government agreed to pay USD 12 million to Colombian airline Avianca, which is only a small fraction of the USD 300 million debt for not paying foreign currency corresponding to tickets sale.

av5.520.360Colombian newspaper La República reports that the airline transports, in average, 160,800 passengers this year. During the first five months of this year, the airliner has mobilized around 67,000 passengers, which means a monthly average of 13,400 tourists.

“Between January and May 2014, Avianca has mobilized around 67,000 passengers, which represents a decrease of 47% in the number of travelers compared to the same period of 2013, when the airline mobilized 125,000 passengers,” the airline pointed out.
