By LimorGarf (CNN) – When you tell your friends that you’re going on vacation to Colombia, most will say; eieee, be careful, are you sure it’s safe? The vision of guerrilla warfare and violence is what immediately comes to mind.

Funny in particular since it’s coming from my fellow New Yorkers! But that’s just because those friends have never been to Colombia.

I just came back from my second trip there.

On my first visit, I vacationed on the resort Island of San Andrés so I didn’t get the most authentic experience. This was my first time visiting a major city in Colombia, and I was blown away by the experience.

Medellin is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the world, and it has so much to offer visitors. From world-class restaurants and cafes, to shopping centers, to exciting nightlife. From fun activities for children and adults alike, to a wide array of tourist sites such as El Peñol, which is a short (and beautiful) one and a half hour drive from Medellin. T

here are many interesting stops to make along the way. I have done my share of traveling around the world, and I must say that it’s one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. The locals are the nicest, most welcoming people, which is very impressive considering all they’ve been through in the past. And if you don’t know any Spanish (most locals don’t speak English), they will take the time to try to understand what it is that you are trying to say.

The city is situated in a valley and spreads up into the mountains, which are all around it. I have never seen more beautiful skies, and the views are to die for. The weather in Medellin is pretty much the same year round; warm during the days and cool at nights, with rain showers here and there.

Can’t wait to go back for a visit, as a break from the NY winter weather.
