The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People”s Army (FARC-EP) and the Colombian government are continuing their talks today in Havana, focused on political participation. Yesterday, the insurgency criticized the 2013-091 draft that Colombia’s Defense Minister, Juan Carlos Pinzon, presented to the country’s House of Representatives.

farc-dialogo-cubaThe FARC calls it a legal monstrosity, aimed among other things at criminalizing social protest, affecting fundamental civil rights through the modification of penal code and procedure.

“We are witnessing the enshrinement of procedures to criminalize protest,” said guerrilla Pablo Catatumbo, speaking on behalf of the FARC at the Conference Center in Havana where peace talks have been underway since November last year. Since the beginning of the current cycle of talks on October 3, the government delegation led by former Vice President Humberto de la Calle has not provided any statements to the media.
