President Juan Manuel Santos slept in one of the 320 apartments that will be given to the neediest of Valledupar (in this project there are 1,600 total). The Head of State claimed this act was to verify the quality of the structures and ensure that the beneficiaries may live a dignified and quality.
Upon waking, Santos read the newspaper El Pilon.
Last night Santos opened the forty-sixth annual Vallenato Legend Festival. The housing minister, German Vargas Lleras, leader of the project, was also in celebration and stayed to sleep in one of the apartments.
This capital project is called Nando Cesarense Marin, in honor of a prominent vallenato composer. It is a complex of buildings consisting of 1,600 apartments, pool area will have 124,000 square meters of parkland and more than 6,000 square meters of public facilities such as schools, health centers and libraries, among others.
The beneficiaries of this project came out of a draw between 5,000 people, of whom 52 percent are victims of violence or displaced and vulnerable 48 percent of the city population.
These apartments have an area of 52 square meters and feature all the utilities.
