Colombian Pacifists Wait for Release of Langlois

The civil society group Colombians for Peace said today to be waiting for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to indicate date and place for the release of French journalist Romeo Langlois.

In a communiqué, the group welcomes the announcement made by French President Francois Hollande that he would appoint a delegate for the handing over of Langlois, who has been held by FARC since April 28.

This announcement, added to the willingness of all parties, the national government and FARC to end this situation positively, is a reason for hope, says the text.

The group, led by pacifist ex Senator Piedad Cordoba, also indicates its full readiness to take part in this release effort and says to be waiting expectantly for that moment.

Langlois, 35, a France 24 correspondent, was captured by FARC amid clashes in a rural area of Caquetá department on April 28, when he was accompanying an army drug operation.

When confirming the capture FARC set out on a statement that the French reporter wore fatigues of the regular army in the midst of a confrontation.

The insurgency announced on Sunday its willingness to hand over the communicator to a commission of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the pacifist Piedad Cordoba and a personal representative of the President of France.
