COLOMBIA SPORTS – In their first World Cup appearance in 16 years, Colombia continues to march toward the knockout round.
The win today gives Colombia breathing space at the top of 2014 Group C.
On Thurday at Estádio Nacional de Brasilia, Colombia used second-half goals from James Rodríguez and Juan Quintero to hold off Ivory Coast, 2-1, and move to the top of Group C with a perfect 2-0 record.
Ivory Coast, which got an electrifying goal from Gervinho, drops to 1-1 in the group after opening the tournament with a come-from-behind win over Japan.
After having a hand in all three of Colombia’s goals in their opening win over Greece, James Rodríguez had another huge day for Los Cafeteros, heading home a 64th-minute corner kick from Juan Cuadrado and setting off another epic dance party on the Colombia bench (led admirably by ageless former Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon).
