COLOMBIA NEWS – QUIBDÓ, Colombia – Troops of the 54th Jungle Battalion, 15th Army Brigade and Titan Joint Task Force destroyed 14,000 coca bushes in a seedbed in Riosucio, Chocó department, the Colombian Army said in a prepared statement on August 1. This battalion also has eradicated 18 hectares of coca, 150 kilos of coca seeds and 100 kilos of coca leaves in 2014.
“This action prevented the terrorist groups of Bajo Atrato from continuing to fund their attempts against the community,” the statement read.
Colombia’s poorest department, Chocó is in the west of the country, where guerrilla groups such as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the National Liberation Army are active.
