ETB is set to construct Colombia’s “most modern” datacentre, said the state telco’s president Saúl Kattan. The company already has several datacentere in its home city of Bogotá and Cali, the executive added.
Construction of ETB’s new datacentre, which will have Tier 3 certification in design and construction, is expected to begin shortly.
The announcement comes amid a boom in Colombia’s datacentre market, with several major multinationals establishing new datacentres in the country in recent months.
IBM, Level 3 and Telefónica all opened datacentres in Colombia during 2013, and plans are in place to install a “mega datacentre” in capital Bogotá.
ETB’s new datacentre will be used to provide services to corporate clients, the operator said in a release.
The state telco has significantly diversified its revenue streams away from traditional business lines such as fixed telephony in recent years, with a significant portion of revenue now coming from new services such as internet and data.
ETB is also set to launch its own mobile data offering later this year after winning 4G spectrum in the 2013 tender.
