Five police officers were injured on Sunday when a police vehicle was targeted by an alleged FARC explosive device in the southwest of Colombia.

Speaking to Blu Radio, the chief of police for the state of Nariño, Colonel Henry Hugo Marquez, said that “a police patrol vehicle containing personnel, was targeted by an explosive device while performing routing checks in the area.”

Authorities have said that the attack was possibly committed by the FARC.

Tumaco, a port town, is home to a number of illegal armed groups because of the municipality’s strategic location on the Pacific coast. Apart from leftist rebel groups like the FARC and ELN, the group reportedly is home to neo-paramilitary groups like The Rastrojos.
