In New York City Monday, president Juan Manual Santos delivered United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, a note signed by Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica, denouncing Nicaragua’s expansionism in the region.

The letter was signed by the Colombian president and his counterparts of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla and Panama, Ricardo Martinelli.

Jamaica, which is also affected by Nicaragua’s expansion intentions of the Caribbean Sea, backed out of the signing, saying it had already made its own objectoions before a UN Commission on Limits of the Sea.

Asked by reporters in New York, deputy Foreign Minister Gioconda Ubeda says to not know the reasons why the Jaimaican government took the decision not to join the Colombian backed initiative.
