Colombia is much more than FARC and drug traffickers

Reality cannot be denied. Colombia has a massive problem when it comes to armed rebel groups, political kidnappings and “guerrilla” issues in general, but the fact is, there’s a lot being done to attempt to solve this problem by President Juan Manuel Santos, who is maintaining bilateral talks to end the nearly 50-year conflict since August 2012, in a new attempt at ending the ravage.

These negotiations also involve a second leftist rebel group called the ELN, short for National Liberation Army, and also encompasses Colombia’s right-wing paramilitaries, drug traffickers and the government forces attempting to impose order. Despite the country having been ravaged by violence at the hands of drug cartels and rebel groups, Colombia is actually Latin America’s oldest democracy.
