Colombian President Opens Summit of Governors
President Juan Manuel Santos inaugurated today at Archipelago of San Andres a general assembly of governors from the country’s 32 departments, who demand agreements to boost development and peace in border areas.
At least seven million Colombians, or 16 percent of the country’s population, live in border areas.
“We need measures that make up for living far. The distance between production centers and decision centers make us pay more for consumables, public services and transport,” said Governor of Narino and President of the Federation of Governors, Raul Delgado.
“We need a policy that encourages investment in these areas and promotes a dynamic action by the State, aimed at bridging the gap with the rest of the country,” he added.
